Society of Critical Care Medicine – Texas Chapter 3rd Annual Symposium Highlights
“Managing the ICU Patient: From Triage to Recovery”
The third annual Society of Critical Care Medicine – Texas Chapter Symposium was a great success! Over 100 clinicians from around the state of Texas attended. The focus of the conference was “Managing the ICU Patient: From Triage to Recovery”. Attendees benefited from pertinent programming discussing the implementation of best available evidence on the topics of ICU liberation, pulmonary, acute cardiac arrest, gastrointestinal disorders, nephrology, infectious diseases and end of life care. The program was highlighted by two key note-speakers, Ms. Christiane Perme and Mr. Michael Mabrey. Ms. Perme opened the Symposium with an invigorating presentation on Post Intensive Care Syndrome (PICS) and the application of evidence-based medicine and guidelines to improve patient care and awareness. The two-day program was closed by Mr. Michael Mabrey, a pharmacist and ICU patient who gave a powerful presentation about ICU care through the eyes of a patient. In addition, this years Symposium included a research poster session with professor walk rounds. Attendance at the poster session was an overwhelming success and discussions provided very thought provoking questions for our Chapter researchers. The Symposium also featured an exhibit hall where attendees had the opportunity to interact with industry representatives whose products help facilitate the delivery of care to the critically ill. Take a look at some highlights from the symposium with the picture slide-show below!
